Run and Triathlon Team Point Scoring Rules
Team point awards are based loosely on the rules set by Tri Northwest. This system is for fun within the team only, and is not in any way related to Tri Northwest, USAT, or other ranking systems.
Point Calculation
Points are awarded based on the amount of time difference between your finish and the age group winner, adjusted by field size and whether it is a sponsored race.
Point awards are calculated as follows: Points = AG Winner Finish Time / Your Finish Time * 100 * Field Size Factor * Team Race Bonus * Sponsored Race Bonus.
All finish times are rounded to the nearest second.

Worked Examples
Katie finished the BlisteredFoot Sprint in 1:43 in an AG field of
275. The winner finished in 1:05. This was not a race hosted by one of
our team sponsors and was not a team race.
Point calculation: 1:05 / 1:43 * 100 * 1.015 * 1.00 * 1.00 = 64.05
Jack finished our sponsor’s GoFast Oly in 2:50. In a AG field of 95,
the winner finished in 2:36. This was also a team race.
Point calculation: 2:36 / 2:50 * 100 * 0.970 * 1.03 *1.03 = 94.43
Team Rankings
For triathlons in 2008, the average of the two best season results for a Sprint and Olympic distances, respectively, will be used for team rankings. Iron and Half-Iron distance races will be scored based on the best results of the season. It's all for fun - share any suggestions for tweaks with Chris.
Run Team Point Scoring Rules
This is a new experiment! For 2008, the scoring approach will be the same as it is for Triathlon. Short distance races (requiring two finishes during the season) will be anything shorter than a 1/2 marathon. Long distance races and a 1/2 marathon on longer. As results and team scores roll in, we will evaluate whether a different point system should be developed.
